Top 5 Song Of All Time (In My Opinion)

I listen to a lot of music. Most of my days are spent listening to new bands. So for me picking my top 5 albums of all time is a little difficult. Asking me to choose my favorite song is basically asking a parent to pick their favorite child (though I am a firm believer that parents have favorites).

I don't have a certain genre of music that I think is better than others. So this list will be ranging from hip-hop to hardcore. So here we go.

1. You're Not the One by Sky Ferreira
I first fell in love with Sky Ferreira on a busy Saturday afternoon while working at American Eagle Outfitters. Night Time, My Time is all about her journey through relationship with people in her life that were toxic.
My favorite song off of the album has to be either "I Blame Myself" or "You're Not The One." Below I have the video for "You're Not The One."

2. Penelope by Pinback
The album was given to me by a friend while we sat in his car that smelled of cigarettes and clothes. I respect this person a lot so of course when he hands me this album, I had to listen. Mostly acoustic indie but apparently "too indie" for my friend.
According to some other friends, this song was part of Pinback's best album. I don't agree with that statement but it is one of my favorites. Maybe it's because while I sat in that cigarette filled car, I fell in love with the band or maybe I'm just a hipster. We'll never know.

3. Wilhelm by James Blake
Influenced by the likes of D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder, James Blake is a London-based producer. With his R&B-sampling strain of dubstep, Blake is one of y favorite artist.
I first listened to him back in 2011. The first song I heard was "The Wilhelm Scream" on his self titled album.
Below I post the video for "The Wilhelm Scream" even though it isn't on the Overgrown album. For me this is where my love for James Blake started so this song is in important to me.

4. 3005 by Childish Gambino
When he's not busy writing for television, performing with his sketch group Derrick Comedy, or acting on the NBC comedy Community, Donald Glover still finds time to make beats and rap his alter ego, Childish Gambino.
He has catchy lyrics about love, relationships, and all around life always give me life. Seeing him in concert was really an experience that I could never put in words.

5. Wildlife by La Dispute
The first time I had ever heard of La Dispute was through my current boyfriend on a drive to dinner one night. He told me how much he loved the band and how he wished he could see them live one day. Me being a good girlfriend bought him tickets for an upcoming show for his birthday. I didn't know what I was in for since I had only hear one song from them and I wasn't even into melodic hardcore (but they honestly don't have a genre that they fit into).
When we finally got to the concert on April 5, 2013, I remember standing there and being in awe. Not only was the band amazing but the lyrics were touching. They hit my soul and made me cry. I never cry. So my hat is off to you La Dispute, thank you for find the words I could have never put together.
